Travellers' Rest Field Trip

My favorite part was dancing in the barn. It was called the Virginia Reel. It was really cool. You start off bowing to your partner, then you dosey doe, which is skipping around in circles. Next, you skip to the end of the line before forming a tunnel that everyone goes through. You end in a bow or curtsy.

P.S. Punishments for girls (in 1799): Girls had to stand on their tiptoes and have their hair nailed to the wall so they would have to stand on their tiptoes all day.

P.S. Boys punishment for teasing a girl: Wear a bonnet.

P.S. They made some kids from my class stand up and be punished so that we would know what it really looked like. They didn't nail the hair, but a boy did have to wear a bonnet.

  1. In that day,it seems that the girls punishment was much tougher than the boys. that doesn't seem fair does it?
I learned to square dance at Snapfinger Elementary School in Decatur, Ga
So let's bow to our partners, and promenade them home!
