KB's class sang this song in Spanish.

This Christmas I want to be a little Christmas Tree
To tell everybody about Jesus Christ
With the ornaments and my lights
Show the love of Jesus Christ.

Color Poetry in the Car

We listened to Horrible Harry and the Dead Letters on the way to school over the last 2 days. IN the book the characters write their very own poetry. The last chapter is nothing but poems that students wrote about colors. KB wanted to give it a try!

If You Want to Find White...

If you want to find white
look at plain paper
look at the fog
look at Santa's beard
look at Neena's hair
look at a skinned, scarred knee
look at the snow and
if you want to find white
look at the tissues.

If You Want to Find Brown...

If you want to find brown,
go outside after it rains
be barefoot
step in the mud and
let the piggies soak in

If you want to find brown,
go look at a building and
its hard bricks that hold
the building together

If you want to find brown,
look at Charlie's hair,
eyebrows, and eyes.
He is a soft, brown dog.

All Bundled Up! (Song from KB's Christmas Program)

My mother's got me all bundled up.
From my head to my toes, nothing shows but my nose,
My mother's got me all bundled up.

When I step outside, there is no doubt I won't freeze like the rest.
'Cause underneath my jacket, I've two sweaters and a vest.

My mother's got me all bundled up.
From my head to my toes, nothing shows but my nose,
My mother's got me all bundled up.

If I fall down I'm so afraid that I will not arise.
I'll lie there like a pile of clothes with icicles in my eyes.

My mother's got me all bundled up.
From my head to my toes, nothing shows but my nose,
My mother's got me all bundled up.

I know she wants to keep me safe, to keep the cold away.
But if I take too long to dress, there's no time left to play.

My mother's got me all bundled up.
From my head to my toes, nothing shows but my nose,
My mother's got me all bundled up.

Angels = Stars?

I think that the stars are angels. The song says that "the stars in the sky look down where He lay." So, the angels must have been watching Jesus sleep.

"Mom, I wish that my heart was bigger so that I can love you more!"

Magic Pasta Pot

I liked the Magic Pasta Pot. If I had that Magic Pasta Pot, I wouldn't have to cook the dinner for my family. The house was overflowing with noodles. It was a fun book.

From KB's school journal!

Christmas Tree Farm

I went to a Christmas tree farm and saw lots of wild animals and cute ones. There were rabbits and goats and chickens and roosters and some pretty birds. I pet the rabbits and fed the goats. I fed them grass. I fed the rabbits some long stringy carrots that were pulled out of a garden.

Disney Journal Entries

This picture is our (hallway of our hotel) apartment at Disney World. I skipped down the hall. I have strong legs. I had fun. I went to Magic Kingdom. I saw a white tail monkey. It was black on the body and it was white on the outside. That is what I saw at Disney.

This is Pochanatas. She called me a warrior. She was in Wild Kingdom. She was neat. She was pretty. I was excited to see her. There were beads on her outfit. I wish I was still there.

These are the yeti's hands I saw on the Expedition Everest. It was a fun rollercoaster. I had fun. I closed my eyes the whole time. That is all. Bye-bye.

Alex and Papa on a Friday Night

Alex came over, and we watched two Mickey Mouse Playhouses. Then we played Honey Taco. I was a poodle, Alex's dog. She likes honey and tacos so that's why she named me, Honey Taco. We got a snack. Alex had cheese and Pepsi. I had cheese, ginger ale, and half of a caramel apple. Then we watched half of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. We went to my room and played secret message, check-up, and danced to music. Then we cleaned up and went out to see Papa. Alex said goodbye to Charlie. I ran and gave her a big, bear hug before she left.

After Alex left, Papa and I got some supper. I had a Smart One's chicken and rice. Papa had a spinach enchilada. After we ate, Papa let me have two pieces of chocolate. I had Papa's favorite, a peanut butter chewie and a tootsie roll. Then we waited for the 7 o'clock How to Train a Dragon. During the movie, I cuddled with Papa. After the movie, Mommy came home and I went to bed. I had a great night.

Snake on the playground (From KB's School Journal)

I saw a snake outside. It was green and slimy and it was skinny as my pinkie. It was sticking out his tongue.

Other Journal Entires by KB

Emily side note: These are entires into KB's school journal. She has to handwrite these and sound out all the words. So they are not as long as when she dictates to me.

October 19: My favorite part was when Officer Buckle discovered "always stick with your buddy." It had a great ending.

October 6 Me and My Mom
I love my mom. She loves me. She asked me if I wanted to go to the beach. I said, "Ok."
My mom said, "Let's go!"
I said, "I love you, mom."
We went to the beach. I said, "We had a great time at the beach."

Jesus created the World

Jesus created the world and all the parts in it including me. The world is pretty. He created people. He created eyebrows, tongues, ears, elbows, eyes, and EVERYTHING. I think that it is really great, and I never want to leave this world.

Safety Tip Number 2: Always give Poppa hugs.

Safety Tip Number 3: Don't slip on banana pudding if you're in the front of the line because everyone behind you will fall.

Safety Tip Number 4: Never swim in an electrical storm.

Safety Tip Number 5: Never leave a pushpin where someone might sit on it.

(Emily's comment: We read Officer Buckle and Gloria this morning before school.... I think she liked it.)

First Day of School

I made 100s of new friends today. I mean 2: Grace and Isabella. I also got to go to PE with Mrs. Garrett, isn't that a nice name. We got to do jumping jacks! I sat, listened, and colored. We read The Kissing Hand and painted our own hands white for a crafty poem. Mom, Can I go to this school next year?

Chicken George

Chicken George is a chicken. He acts like a chicken. Cluck. Cluck. Cluck. Wait, no he's not.

Chicken George is a farmer. Farmers have lots of work to do. Every morning, Chicken George must get up really early to feed the pigs, milk the cows, brush the horses, and gather eggs. Then he has to go to work in Mexico. Chicken George's farm is in Georgia, but once a month he has to go to Mexico to earn money. Back on the farm, Chicken George has a tractor. He digs and digs for days to build a swimming pool. He had to clean out all of the yucky worms, but he gets his pool built. Chicken George is a hard worker.

A Week with KK and Doc

I spent last week with Doc and KK. I missed Mommy and Papa, but I got to see my friends and my cousins. I spend the night at Sam and Noah's. We all slept in the same room. I slept on the top bunk. We built a hude city. We had a fun, fun, fun time. I also went to Ms. Ruth's. She has goats and sheep. So cute. KK and I did lots of crafts. She made a dress and new blanket for Chloe.

If you had been there, you would have had a great time too.

Orange Peel's Pocket by Rose Lewis (Summer Reading)

This story is about Orange Peel. She is from China. Her teacher asked her to figure out about China. Her class asked her a bunch a bunch of questions. She got some very special silk. Ma Sang read her a poem about oceans, mountains, and flowers in China. Then she smelled all the flowers at the shop. Chrysanthemums, Peonies, and Lilies. When she was hungry she went to eat Mr. Yu's Best Noodle making shop. Mr. Yu said long noodles mean long life. Orange Peel had money in her pocket so they went to get ice cream. When getting her money out, all he treasures fell out: a piece of silk, a peony, Mr. Yu's Best Noodle recipe, and a poem from Ma Sang. When leaving the shop, the ice cream lady, slipped something into her pocket. Her pocket was full of treasures.

She had butterflies in her stomach the next day. She was able to show AND tell her class about China using her treasures.

Lake Wedowee and the Boat

At the lake, we had to put on life jackets; all the people under 18 had to wear a life jacket. I'm sure, Mom, that you are over 18, but I had to wear Lola's when we were in the boat. The boys jumped out of the boat, but not the girls, we didn't want to get our faces wet. We rode on a tube. It was so fun. When the boat went fast we bumped up really high. In the front of the boat, water would splash up and hit us. It was really funny.

Rhett or Matt drove the boat. Drake, Dawson, Delaney, Wyatt, Lola, Grampa, Nana, Aunt Dale, Grandmother, Jenny, Kara, Randy, and Dustin all rode on the boat. Randy and Dustin all came for a little while. All the big boys went fishing.

A Day with Lola and Grampa

On Friday, Lola, Grampa, and I went to McDonalds. We all had hot cakes. Grampa drank coffee, just like I knew he would. Lola had strawberry juice, and I had my usual.... all the drinks mixed up. Yum. Then we went to CVS where we bought silly bands. Then we went to the park where we got to play for a long time. The best part was getting wet. They had a little froggy; you had to put water in it and then it would squirt water out. The frog is on top of the red pool with sprayers on the side. We were hungry after playing so we drove around looking for donuts. We ended up at Publix. We got plain donuts with plain icing. Then we went to Dollar General and bought me a toothbrush. Lola and I both got dollies. We walked all the way back to Publix where the car was parked and drove home. We went swimming in Aunt Dale's pool which was as big as a sofa. Not the sofa upstairs in our house, but like the one downstairs. A normal size.

Kayaking

My name is Katie Beth. I am on a boat today. It is going to be really funny because we have been out for a whole hour. And I see these really cool boats over there. Mom, you gotta put it over there. See 'em. Now, back to me. And. Um. There is a nest over there. Just look at it. Momma, look at it. And it is gonna be so awesome. When this goes off, we are about to be done. And there this thing that we are gonna get on. And Anna came with me. We saw some dolphins. And a manatee. And birds. So many birds. And I saw a frog and crabs. It was so awesome. Mom saw a big bird. It was so pretty. We didn't even fall out of the boats once.

What Happens on Sanibel. We Talk About All Week!

I saw a place called Keylime Bistro. It is a restaurant that is so funny--it is like keylime pie, but a restaurant. Yesterday we went fishing. Momma caught a shark, and I got to touch it. It was so crazy. It was hard on the top and soft on the bottom. We caught lots of fish like bass. I got to reel them up. I didn't have my own rod. There was a lady finger fish in the bait box.... it had lots of spots. I got to throw it over the side and release it back into ocean. I saw a sting ray, dolphin, and fancy birds.

After fishing, we went to the pool and swam. Then played in the ocean. I ate a huge banana split for dinner. It was so big. I didn't need supper. It seemed to be 2 feet tall.

Later today we are going kayaking.

Sanibel Island

This morning we went to the beach, and I got touched by the fish. I found lots of live sanddollars. Papa found a snail. I played with a little girl named Bella. Bella has lots of sand toys. We made a sand castle, we played in the water, and we went for a walk. On our walk, we picked up seashells. I found some really pretty shells. This afternoon, I went to the pool with Anna. We swam and played on the kickboard. I borrowed a noodle and blew water out the end. I played with it. I blew water at mommy and Anna. The water touched Anna from blowing through the tube.

We have a really cool back porch. There are lizards and there are chairs and a table. The porch has a roof and a sliding glass door. It is really fun.

Tonight we are going to The Bubble Room. We have been to really cool restaurants. For lunch I had a bagel and cream cheese with chips.

I am having lots of fun wuth Mommy, Papa, and Anna. I found a little white crab.

That's all for today. The end.

Indian Rocks Beach, FL

Yesterday, I came to Florida. We drove forever, and it was so boring.

We ate at a steak restaurant; everyone had fish, but me. We ate outside near the channel and watched the boats. After dinner, we went swimming in the pirate pool. The pool was fun and wet, wet.

Mosquitos had a Tasty Dinner

The mosquitos had a tasty dinner tonight. I think that the big ones won't have to eat anymore until tomorrow morning. The little mosquitos might need a snack, but I am inside now. They'll have to find something else to snack on. I am a little sweet and a little salty; the best kind of snack especially for a mosquito.

I wish my back didn't itch so bad.

Jelly Bean Investigation and Research

5 senses:

Outside of the jellybean:
It feels hard, smooth, and rolly.
It looks like a bean and seed. It is oval. It looks like a chrysalis.
It sounds like bubbles and makes me giggle. If you knock them together they bump, bump.
It smells like strawberries, limes, and lemons.
It tastes sugary. First it is hard then chewy.

Inside of the jellybean:
It has no sound. It is not alive.
It feels sticky and gorss, like boogers.
It looks like a little toy or maybe dried glue.
It tastes like strawberries, lemons, and limes. It is chewy.
The flavor is inside. The jelly part is the strawberry flavor; the outside is just a color.

Descriptions:
My jellybeans taste like limes, strawberries, and lemons. They make me giggle when they bubble. Jellybeans are too sugary. When I chew them, the gel sticks in my teeth. I still think that the jellybeans can grow into a tree.

Research: (Mom helped with this.)
We don't really know when or where jelly beans were created. Most candy experts agree that the gel came from the Middle East, my aunt Becky is in the Middle East right now. The hard shell came from France. In 1861, the jelly bean was first introduced to Americans in Boston. Today there are lots of flavors. So maybe it can't grow a tree. We'll see.

KB Funnies (recorded by Emily)

KB mad about having to go to bed at 7:30:

"I am serious. "I am packing my suitcase and moving out. Actually, mom, you move out. I don't need a mom anymore. I am old enough to get what I want."

After fishing at the Akin's pond:

KB "caught 13 fish or maybe a 1000."

On a Sunday afternoon:
"I'm taking the second bus to New Jersey because I missed the first bus. I packed my toothbrush, Bible, water cups, more clothes, and white high heels. I'll be back in 2 weeks." (P.S. The treehouse is the New Jersey shoreline.)

One night I glance out the window and see KB sprinkling the firewood with a full jar of Emeril's Fish Rub. I open the back door and say, "K, whatcha doing?" KB looks at me like I should know that she is "seasoning the firewood." I nearly died laughing. That girl absolutely cracks me up.

KB's school was having a hat day accompanied by a hat competition among the teachers. Students where to vote on the teacher's hat they liked the best. The teacher that won would receive a paid day off. Ms. Molly's hat had a sign on it that said something to the effect "vote for Ms. Molly, so that I can have an extra day on my honeymoon." That afternoon, I asked KB, "Who did you vote for?"
She replied, "Ms. Alisha, her hat was pointy and Asian. I liked it the best."
I said, "Yep, her hat was cool."
"But I hope Ms. Molly wins so that she gets a longer honeymoon."
I asked, "Why didn't you vote for her if you want her to win?"
(uh, well, duh, mom) "We were supposed to vote for the hat we liked the best. And I liked Ms. Alisha's."
How's that for integrity!

Jelly Bean Tree Experiment

Observation of Jelly beans and Dahlia seeds

Jelly Beans: looks like a seed; oval; black, pink, yellow; hard; smooth; yummy

Dahlias: looks like a raindrop shape; grainy; greenish; hard; smooth; I'm gonna say they taste gross.

Hypothesis

Both the jellybeans and the dahlias will grow. The Dahlias will grow first.

Day 1:
1. Compare jelly beans and dahlias.
2. Plant in soil.
3. Water.
4. Place outside in sunshine.

Day 3
1. Water
Observation: no growth

Day 6
1. water
Observation: jelly bean no growth; Dahlia 1.5 cm growth

Day 8
1. water
Observation: jelly bean no growth; Dahlia 2 cm growth

Day 11
1. water
Observation: jelly bean no growth; Dahlia 3 cm growth

Fishing with my Doc

I went fishing with my Mommy, Poppa, and Doc. We went to Marrowbone Lake in Nashville. I caught a fish. We got 2 boats. First I rode with Doc and caught a baby blue gill. Then I rode with Mommy and I fished and took a little nap. We used fishing rods and crickets to catch fish. It was good.

Chuck-E-Cheese with Lizzy

I went to Chuck-E-Cheese with Elisabeth. She turned 5 today. We ate cake, cookies, and pizza. Yum. I got to ride a horse. It was great, oh yeah, baby. I called CEC 3 times; he also called me 3 times so I had to answer.

Before we ate Tyler prayed. He said, "Thank you for Elisabeth's b-day so we can have cake."

The Best Day Ever (or since the last best day ever)

Today we celebrated Chinese New Year. We ate cupcakes. The icing was black and cupcake was white. Yummy.

We also learned about presidents. Presidents help people do the tight right thing. Presidents are nice. They tell people what they have to do and what they can't do. To help people with what they have done wrong. To tell people how to be kind to others. Presidents are elected. Our president, Obama. was elected by the people. There have been a lot of other presidents. I know another president's name: George Washington.

The coolest part of school today was that the tooth fairy came. Dylan, Wynne, and me were teeth. We wore white t-shirts. Dylan was a molar, Wynne was a 6 year molar, and I was a pointy tooth. Some people call them sharp or shark teeth. The tooth fairy brushed us. It tickled so much. We had to keep our arms still because teeth don't have arms. We brush our teeth so we don't get cavities. We played a button game with the tooth fairy. If you have never played the button game, you need to ask the tooth fairy to come to your school. She asked us questions and if we knew the answer, we hit the button. She ask us all about our teeth. We also watched a Gina the Giraffe movie. Gina's friend didn't brush her teeth. All her teeth fell out, turned green, or turned to wood. George Washington, the first President, had wooden teeth because he take care of his teeth and they were rotten.

Fires, Watermelons, and Flowers

It has been a busy week at school. We have been studying about "solids, wiquids, and gases." Yesterday we made a Heart Potion. Heart Potions are cool. First, you need blue and red Koolaid, which you need to make and then freeze into ice. You also need straws, cups, and a coke. Put the ice in the glass cup (I chose red) and then slowly pour the coke in. The bubbles turn pink. It makes pinky bubbles. Pink gas, really.

We also painted with straws. You were suppose to blow through the straw to make neat designs. When it was my turn, I put the straw in my mouth and took a big breath so I would have pretty paint, but I ended up sucking the paint in through the straw instead. YUCK! I spit it out. It tasted like paint.

The next thing we learned about is the heart. The heart has 4 chambers, vessel spouts with lots of blood coming out, and it pumps. My heart is about as big as my fist. A great and powerful doctor did the first open heart surgery (Daniel Hale Williams). He was the greatest doctor, but he died.

Other things:
1. Mom is going to write on my birth certificate pillow with stain forever light blue (Mom calls this a permanent marker).
2. My favorite smells are fires, watermelons, and flowers.

Happy Valentine's Day.

My new school

I started a new school this week. On my first day, I played with shake up bottles. Shake up bottles are bottles that have color and fuzzling up inside. When you shake them, they fuzzle and the color gets darker. Also, I played dress up with silver sparkly shoes. In the playroom, I played with hula hoops, which I am really good at. We had a bean bag war. I built a fort to hide behind and I threw bean bags out from behind my fort so that I would not get hit. I love making forts. It was so neat.

We pretended that a werewolf was trying to bite everyone, but I captured him and took him to jail. Pretend jail. I didn't want him to bite anyone else. The pretend jail was in one of the forts we made.

I really like my new school.

Science Experiment

(Wednesday) When I got home from school, I got 4 plastic cups. Mommy and I filled them with water and squirted food coloring in each. Then we put them outside to see if they will be frozen in the morning. I think that the water will be frozen because it is so cold. I also think that blue will freeze the fastest.

Tonight before bed each cup was still liquid. I think that it is still liquid because it has not had that much time outside.

(Thursday morning) This morning the water was not frozen. I am sad. I will check back later.

(Thursday night) Still liquidy. It must not be cold enough. If I leave it out there longer, it will freeze.

(Friday morning) It's FROZEN!!!!!!! Hurry, put it in the freezer so that I can take it to Nana's this weekend and show her the ice. I think that it was finally cold enough to freeze the liquid.
