Bengali Culture

Check out my cool video by clicking:  Bengali Culture

Salaam. Kemon Aachhen. Or Hello, How are you? The people of Bangladesh have an interesting culture. Parts of their culture are the language, music, food, and clothes.
The language the people of Bangladesh speak is Bengali. 98% of the people of Bangladesh speak Bengali. Here are some of the Bengali words:
Bengali Word
English word
Salaam
Peace
Kemon Aachhen
How are you?
Shubha-gaman
Welcome
Aabar dekha hobe
Goodbye, see you later.
Doya kore or onugiha
Please
Dhon no baad
Thank you.
Aami
I
Shey or sneyo
He or she
Shundor
Beautiful
Amitoilet ejabo
I need to go to the bathroom.
Neye

Enele

Another part of the Bengali culture is their music. The music is usually on stage or digital and includes simple structure words, which means basic grammar structures. The songs are secular or religious. The rulers would tell the maids who would tell the songwriters what to write in the song. Some examples are: Jari are battle songs, Kavigan means battle of poems, and Boul means talon or snake songs.

My favorite thing about the Bengali culture is their plants. The culture is fascinating because they have floating schools, which is awesome.  The Bengali culture is a very different from the United States of America.

Time Turner

I turn the time. I twist the clock.
I flip upside down; back in time tickety-tock.
It helps my grades. It helps my life.
It spins me around with all its might.
I fly back to history,
but be careful not to see me
for the danger of that could cause a catastrophe.
A little glass bottle of turning time
will make your life split in two
with a flick of a dime.
It can save more than one life
on this dark and stormy night.
It saved a magical creature
of loyalty, that’s right!
It also saved Sirius, a man of misunderstanding
who people fear on sight.
I turn the time. I twist the clock.
I flip upside down; back in time tickety-tock..
This wonderful device of power and strength will help us all if we just think.

Tom, the Turkey

This year Tom chose to dress up as a Christmas Tree.

So if you see a face on an ornament, know that it is Tom's. He did not think about shiny ornaments. Tom better hope Santa does not have too many presents for the kids this year. Tom, the turkey, has to be careful not to scream when an ornament goes too far. So if you see a weird tree, remember T-O-M is a Christmas Tree this year. Wink! Wink!

My Birthday Dinner

I got dressed up in a flowery dress and jumped into the car. Mommy dropped Papa and me off at Lowes at Vanderbilt where we walked through the lobby to Ruth's Chris. The hostess greeted me with "Happy Birthday" when I walked in the door. She led us to our seats where there was confetti that said "Happy Birthday" and a card waiting on me. That's when I asked Papa if I could run around the twirly door when we left. Then Jen, our waiter, came up. She asked us what we wanted to drink. I told her a Shirley Temple. While she was gone, I opened my card. It was from the whole Ruth's Chris Family. Our drinks come out. I mixed up the sprite with the cherry juice, and it tasted awesome. For dinner I ate steak. When it came out it was sizzling, really I could hear it. Shrimp, potatoes, and spinach rounded out the dinner. I finished a lot of it. We decided to pack it up to save room for dessert. Jen asked us what we wanted for dessert. I said cheesecake. When she came out with the cheesecake, it had a candle in it and written in chocolate was "Happy Birthday". The cake was surrounded by berries and had sour cream on top. Then we were done. The waitress called a taxi. We got in the taxi and left. When we got home, we had to tell this whole story again.

Presidential Speech

My name is Kathryn Pendergrass, and I am running as a candidate for class president in the Smarties Government. I will be a great president because I love leading people in the right way. Once I was a bite police officer. I worked with my preschool class to stop biting each other.

You should vote for me because I am knowledgeable and very principled. I will make sure we recycle more. I will try to make the world/classroom a better place.

I hope you vote for me because I am the best candidate for President of the Smarties classroom.

Adelle is running as my Vice President.

Future Science Fair Experiment

Question: Do coyotes still like bologna even though mold has been growing on it?

Steps:
Grow mold on bologna.
Put the bologna in a Ziploc bag and wash the mold off.
Feed the bologna to a coyote to see if the coyote will eat moldy bologna.

How will I get a coyote? Well, my papa will catch one for me.

Sidewalk Fables

Once upon a time, there lived a nice and colorful dragon. He was thought to be a monstrous dragon, but that was completely wrong. The townspeople thought that the bright colors represented death. Yet, every color was bright and strong representing new life. After 7 long years of torture, a lion attacked the city. The beautiful, colorful dragon saved the great town with a "hi-ya, bang, pa-wow," and he won! The townspeople thanked the dragon and asked him if he wanted to be knight. The dragon said, "yes!"

Moral: Don't judge people (dragons) before you actually get to meet them.

The Awesome Week

Well, on Monday I played outside with my friends: Lilli, Sark, Henry, Harper, Sasha, Lucia, and Priyanka. Then I went to Kumon. It was really, really very easy. I am working on multiplication and past tense verbs.

On Wednesday, I went to writing club. We wrote a story on a computer. I finally finished my fashion story (Mom will post it when the school magazine comes home). I started a new poem line story; I came up with it. It is a big line through the middle of the page not touching the top or bottom. You put squares on the sides and you write small poems inside the squares. The poems are on the same topic, and when you put the poems together, you get a small story. And on Wednesday I had basketball practice. I did something really hard; I, me, had 2 balls while jumping throughout a football runner, like hopscotch, while dribbling the 2 balls! It was hard.

On Thursday, I went to basketball again. Then I had a community group party. We ate spaghetti and macaroni. I made a craft; sunflowers to be specific with my young friends, Jazzi and Jrew.

Friday was active. I went to marathon training and ran 2 miles. I also went to triathlon practice. We worked on swimming. I swam super fast. I had to go around many people.

Saturday, my mom ran a half marathon. She did a great, wonderful, great job. She had to run in the rain, and I had to stand in the rain. But my friend, Priyanka (from Monday), come over at 6:30am to play while her dad also ran. So, we watched part of the marathon and got many high fives and frozen feet. When we got to my house, Priyanka took a shower, and I drank some hot tea. Then I took a shower, and she drank hot cocoa. After 2 hours, my friends, Henry and Harper (my neighbors and from Monday), came over to eat lunch and play. We ate hamburgers and hot dogs that Papa grilled in the rain.

SUNDAY! I had my marathon. I was the second girl over the finish line for Eakin. I am so proud of me. I received many things after the race: pretzels, cookies, apples, oranges, a bag, and a MEDAL. The medal is shaped like a guitar and heavy. I also had dinner at my neighbors', Marcie and Steve, house. We ate steak, chicken, veggies, bread, and chocolate cake. I played with horses and a stable. I got Steve to buy a horse.

It was all great. We had a busy, exciting week!

Bye!

Playa del Carmen

I did a lot on my vacation. I went to the beach everyday and the pool. I got to eat a lot of desserts. I went to a party on the beach. It was beautiful. You might get to go there someday at my wedding (if whoever he is agrees)!

Starry Night Bedroom

I used my Christmas gift cards to buy glow in the dark stars, planets, and moons for my bedroom. This is one corner of my room. I get to sleep under the stars every night. Do you like my ceiling it is green?

Today, I got my Scholastic Book Club order that my mom placed last week. I built this solar system model to go in room. It lights up.

My new solar system model came with a glow in the dark poster of the planets. Isn't it cool?

The last thing that completes my starry night bedroom is a night light that projects the planets, sun, and stars onto my wall. It is way to cool to sleep under so many stars and planets. Sweet Dreams!

Missing: Help Wanted

So... I got these new shoes. AND they are beautiful. They are pink and black (even though I don't like pink that much). They are strap overs. They are exactly the same size, a 6.5 in women's.

Here's a picture... not the real one, but close.

NOW they are MISSING.
These shoes were last seen in the car on the way home on Monday evening.
Please help me find them.

Girl Scout Cookie Interview

What is your personal Girl Scout Cookie sales goal? Around 76

What is your strategy for selling Girl Scout Cookies? Asking people really nicely and politely. And wearing my cute face.

What is your favorite part about selling Girl Scout Cookies? My favorite part is walking around and seeing my friends while I sell them and raising money for different things.

What are some tips and suggestions your can give to Girl Scouts that have never sold cookies before? All you need to do is find a grown-up and get your cookie sheet. Ask your neighbors at their door so they don't have to come to you. Please, please, please have a good attitude, even if the person says, "I'm on diet. I can't have cookies." You should say, "Thank you. Did you know you could donate them to soldiers. One little cookie might help the soldiers feel happier and feel like they are back at home."

What ideas could you give another troop who hasn't decided what to do with their money yet? Troops could go camping and then the next day the troops could deliver food to homeless people.

Here's a picture of our Girl Scout Troop Booth. I painted the pink letters and made a fabric flower (The one on the bottom right by the chalkboard). My mom ironed together the flag banner. This is my friend, Aerie. She is my Girl Scout Leader's daughter.

You can STILL buy cookies from me. Send your check or cash to my mom at 1924 20th Ave. S., Nashville, TN 37212.
