Belize

I went to a private island. We had to get off the big boat onto a small boat to get the island.  I ate some shrimp. It was good. The birds spilled my ketchup. We ate here:

On the beach, I made a way to get from the ocean to our chairs without getting sand on my feet. I got 3-4 floats and made it like a machine. First you would stand by the side of the first float and let the water run up your feet. Then you would run to the next float. On the third float you hopped to dry off your feet. Then walk on the last one to your chair where your shoes are waiting. You can see the floats lined up here:
I had a great day!

Cruise: Cozumel

Cozumel was so fun! I went on a tour with Karen/KK and mommy. My tour guide was Alex. He is a Mayan. We went to a place called the PeePee station on our way to Mayan Ruins.

At the Mayan ruins, it was sort of like a museum that is outside. Everything was made of stone. The Mayans walked sideways down stairs so they would show respect.

Then the tour got awesome! We went to the beach. I had lunch at the beach. I had the best burrito in my life. I got a pinada to drink. It was delicioso! Then the tour was over, and I got back on the cruise ship.

Mary Lou Elkins-Ancestry Project

Peter Turney the 1st was my 6th great grandfather. After he fought in the Revolutionary War, he moved to Fort Nashborough. Tennessee was not even a state yet! He bought land in 1783 around where Vanderbilt University is today.

His son, Hopkins Lacy Turney, served in the Seminole War in 1818 with his godfather, Andrew Jackson. Hopkins served in the US congress from 1837-1843. Then he was a Senator from 1845-1851.

His son, Peter, was governor of Tennesee from 1893-1897. Peter had several daughters. One was named Virginia. She had a daughter named Mary Lou Elkins in 1889. This doll represents Mary Lou, my great, great grandmother.

When Peter Turney was sworn in as governor, Mary Lou sat on his lap during the ceremony.

This picture is of Mary Lou when she was older.

My family from me to Revolutionary Soldier Peter Turney:
Kathryn Elizabeth Pendergrass
Joshua Turney Pendergrass (Papa)
Karen Lou Mitchell Pendergrass (KK)
Peter Turney Mitchell (Pappy)
Mary Lou Elkins Mitchell (Mimi)
Virginia Turney Elkins
Peter Turney (governor)
Hopkins Lacy Turney

Doc's and VBS for a Week

I went to my Doc's for one whole week. We had basketball camp and VBS.

VBS lasted the whole week and this year the theme was planes. VBS-everyday-all week. I learned about different kinds of co-pilots. A co-pilot is the assistant driver to the pilot. A pilot is the person in charge of the whole entire plane. Just like God is in charge of us. He's out pilot.

I went to VBS with my cousins, Sam and Noah. We made lots of crafts. I made a purse, which is ALL MY STYLE, and the boys made wallets. Here is a picture of both side of my purse:

VBS was awesome. On Friday, we played in a bunch of jumpy houses. The preschoolers only had 4 jumpy houses. The big kids had a whole parking lot full of different kinds.

At basketball camp, someone from our VBS class was in our group at camp. I got a basketball, water bottle, a sticker for the car, a pin that you put on your shirt, a picture, and a poster. We learned about the "triple threat." We had to say the same Bible verse everyday. Here's the verse: We are the children that God dearly loves. So be just like him.

Junior Naturalist Badge

I'm becoming a Junior Naturalist with the Metro Nashville Parks.

I created a poem about dogs, which are mammals. Here's a picture of the poem I made using Readwritethink.org:
I also made menus for 3 mammals. I had to learn what they ate and create an original menu. Mom said she would take pics and upload them soon.

I also researched the red fox and made an animal cube. I learned that fox babies are called kits, foxes are omnivores, which means that eat just about everything, and that they live all over the northern hemisphere and Australia.

I am halfway to my Junior Naturalist Title. Yay!

Pool... four days in a row

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

On all of these days, I went to the pool. On Friday, I went to the pool because my grandparents were visiting, and they needed a nap. On Saturday, we swam for fun and because it was so HOT. While we swimming, my friends, Ella and Brooke, came. On Sunday, we had time after church without that much to do; we went back to the pool. The first three days I went to my pool.

On Monday, I went to Amy and Keith's for a cookout and swim party. Jazzi and Jrew were there. Here is a picture of Jazzi and me in the pool.

Jazzi is two and and a half, and she swam without anyone holding her. It was amazing! Have you ever seen a 2 1/2 year old swim alone? She even went down the big slide after me! Jrew also went down the big slide. Jazzi and Jrew had to wear life vest on the slide. I did not because I was big enough.

P.S. I REALLY like to swim.

The Hike

Yesterday, my mom was going to Stephanie's for a cookout, and I didn't want to go. Let me back up. In the afternoon, I was at the pool and my friend called me. She invited me to go hiking that night at Radnor Lake. So, I chose hiking instead of going with my mom. I took a ton of pics. Here is one of them:
This is Brook, Ella, and me (this is the order we are sitting in). We saw 1 turkey, 7 deer, and 1 humongous snake.

P.S. I took pictures with my own phone.

Following Directions with Ladybugs

This is a picture I drew of a ladybug by following directions.
1. Two straight lines for antennae if you are not afraid of bugs.
2. Two inch lines for legs if you have ever caught a bug.
3. Have you ever been bitten or stung by a bug? Yes-2 dots on right side.
4. What is your least favorite kind of bug? Yellow Jacket- 4 dots on left side.
5. Would you hold a ladybug? Yes-color body red.
6. If you like most bugs, color the head yellow.
7. If you are going to catch bugs later today, write your name on the top of the paper.

Last Day of School

NOT FUN!

Two days before the end of school, I fell and a chunk of my arm fell out. So on the last day of school, the chunk of skin was still out and my arm hurt.

Another thing that was not fun is that I had to say goodbye to my friends, Arielle and Adam. They are moving, and I will never see them again.

The last day of school was also AWESOME. Ms. Rall, my teacher, gave me a forever pencil. Here's a picture:

I also got a piggyback ride from me. It was hard. First I tried using my leg to carry myself, but it didn't work out so well. So I got someone that looked kind of like me (my twin doll, Kendl) and got her on my back. That worked out ok.

Bugs Picnic Musical (Goin' On A Picnic)

KB (1st Grade) is the 3rd person from left on second row wearing yellow. The lyrics are below is case you have a hard time understanding the kiddos. KB's part is in bold.
-->

Everybody gather ‘round
Gonna have a picnic on the ground
You can bet I’ll be their guest
That’s ‘cause I’m a picnic pest!
Picnic!

Come on let’s have a picnic!
With lots of food that’s fun to eat
Goin’ on a picnic can’t be beat!
Let’s all do a picnic dance
What’s a picnic without ants?
All you have to do is chew,
At the outdoor barbecue

Picnic!
Come on let’s have a picnic!
With lots of food that’s fun to eat
Goin’ on a picnic can’t be beat!

Come on bugs now gather ‘round
Gonna cut a rug here on the ground
Swing that partner that you’ve found
Buzz a-round with a picnic sound!

Bzzzz!  Bzzzz!  Bzzzz! Bzzzz! Bzzzz!
Bzzzz! Bzzzz! Bzzzz! Bzzzz! Bzzzz!
Bzzzz! Bzzzz! Bzzzz! Bzzzz! Bzzzz!

Becoming a Naturalist

For school, I have to research a job that might be a good fit for me. I like children, sports, animals, and singing. I think I want to be a Naturalist. Naturalists have to LOVE nature and sharing that LOVE with others. I need to go to college and study wildlife biology or environmental science.

Geocaching and Earth Day as a Daisy Scout

Geocaching is where you get clues and find a small tube that has been hidden outside by other geocachers. First, we learned about map coordinates, which are numbers that you put into a GPS unit. Map coordinates are points on a map. All the way to the Nashville Dog Restaurant, we picked up trash because we are celebrating Earth Day so the Earth would be better. At The Dog there was a small purple geocache hanging from a string, and I found it. It told us some new coordinates, and we had to go all the way back to my school. Acori, my friend, found the second cache. It had my first patch, an Earth Day patch, for the back of my Daisy Vest. Then we put seeds inside a container and we tried to find a place to hide our own geocache. I found the perfect place under a rock. A big rock. We collected more rocks and made it look like a big rock pile.

Gift of Trees Patch

I have to do 6 activities to earn this patch.

1. Philanthropists in Action: I learned about Eliza Skidmore's dream to plant Cherry Trees in Washington, D.C. It took her a long time, but we are now having the 100 year celebration. I also drew a picture of my dream. This is my dream:

2. Honoring International Friendships: make a paper crane to share with a new friend and learn the "Make New Friends" Girl Scout song. Here I am singing this new song...

3. Cultural Connections: Eat Sushi and learn Japanese letters for Sakura (the Japanese word for Cherry Blossom). Here they are:

4. Spring Into Art: Write a Haiku about  the beauty of the cherry tree and draw a picture.

5. Discover your Environment: Learn about photosynthesis and plant seeds to watch grow. I planted watermelon seeds

6. History Activities: Changes in girl scouts since mommy was a girl scout and geocaching with my troop where we hid a new geocache with seeds in it.

Travellers' Rest Field Trip

My favorite part was dancing in the barn. It was called the Virginia Reel. It was really cool. You start off bowing to your partner, then you dosey doe, which is skipping around in circles. Next, you skip to the end of the line before forming a tunnel that everyone goes through. You end in a bow or curtsy.

P.S. Punishments for girls (in 1799): Girls had to stand on their tiptoes and have their hair nailed to the wall so they would have to stand on their tiptoes all day.

P.S. Boys punishment for teasing a girl: Wear a bonnet.

P.S. They made some kids from my class stand up and be punished so that we would know what it really looked like. They didn't nail the hair, but a boy did have to wear a bonnet.

Nashville

It is so exciting to live in Nashville.

Over the break, we moved to Nashville. I had a hard time saying goodbye to GA and all my friends and family. But it is good to see the other half of my family more. I already played with Sam and Noah a couple of times. It is good to be around them.

Our apartment is big. I have the master room that means that my room is bigger than Momma and Papa's. My Momma's new school is very big. Papa and I went for a walk one day while she worked. I got hot chocolate, Papa got some coffee, and we split a cheese Danish in the Peabody Library. It was delicious.

It is great here! I hope that it is still good there.

Love you!
