I interviewed my great grandmother, Nina Mitchell, for a school project. One question she answered was "What invention has most changed your life and why?" After watching the video, please leave a comment or story about an invention that has changed your life, please.
I think for me, at 44, I would have to say the cell phone has most changed my life. Even when I was a child or teenager, or even first married, the only way to call someone was from your land line house phone or from a phone booth. Now we can call anyone and everyone from everywhere, any time of day or night, without a cord or a dime! (house phones all had phone cords when I grew up and phone booths would cost a dime, and later a quarter, to make a call). As long as you and the other person want to, you can now be in constant contact with people! It's pretty amazing when you think about how far we've come in that area in even just the past 25 years!
ReplyDeleteGreat job Kathryn! I can't wait to show this to the rest of the class! What do you think your great-grandmother would say if she saw this video of herself on the big projection screen? Ms. Rall
ReplyDeleteP.S. The invention that has most changed my life is the computer. My family got our first computer when I was in the fifth grade, and I got my first email account when I was in college. My roommate and I sat in the computer lab for half an hour on our first day of college trying to figure out how to use email (and couldn't figure it out!). Now I communicate with email ALL THE TIME! I use the computer to watch TV, read the news, keep in touch with friends who are far away...it's become a crucial tool for me, and I can't imagine life without it!
I think my great grandmother would just sit there and go, "uhhhhh." Or she might get all excited and bounce a little on her knees.
DeleteMs. Rall, I have an email account already, and I am learning how to use it.
DeleteI think the invention that has most changed my life is the computer. I first used a computer in college in 1976. It was as abgout as big as a 2 car garage. Just think how small they are now. I use google all the time....what did we do before we were able to google. google has become a word we use all the time.
ReplyDeleteOh I really love this little interview, especially the design of this video. This seems really professional!I think the most important inventions in my life is the computer. I got in touch with computer when I was in 4th grade. My dad bought the first computer of our family and it was so fancy to all of us! It changed the way I perceive communication and work as well.
ReplyDeleteGreat job, Kathryn! I am so impressed with you editing and interviewing skills.
DeleteI think the invention that has changed my life the most is the internet and social networking. It's hard to pinpoint it to just one site, but the idea of cloud computing and storing information within the internet has revolutionized everything.
Great job! You are a professional. Look out Katie Couric!
ReplyDeleteI think the invention that has changed my life the most is spell check or is Mr. Coffee. Without their help, I don't think I could get anything done!
Well done, Kathryn! I am especially glad Neena told you about cutting paper dolls from the Sears Roebuck catalog, since that is a game I played with her when I was your age.
ReplyDeleteThe invention that has most changed my life is the document camera and projector in my classroom. I used to use an overhead projector and everything had to be written on see-through plastic sheets with special markers that stained my hands.

"Go, KB! For me, the PC. It has simplified so many things The cell phone--has simply moved these things into a portable pkg."
This is such a great interview, KB! I learned a lot from watching it. The automobile is an invention that has changed my life a lot. The ability to drive to the grocery store, to my job, to the park, and other places gives me a lot of freedom. I am so sad and frustrated when my car isn't working. Those moments make me realize how much I depend on my car to get around and get things done. Good luck with your project! Thanks for sharing your biography with us.
ReplyDeleteKathryn! This is so great! You are following in your mother's footsteps I see! :) The iPhone is the invention that changed my life, especially in college. I use it for EVERYTHING! If I am in between classes and I need to look up something or I need to make reservations, I can do it right from my phone. I use it when I run at the gym and when I tweet/facebook (but never during class haha). I hate to say this but I would be lost if I did not have my phone! Good luck with your project! I hope I get to meet you soon!
ReplyDeleteGreat Interview, KB! I'm sure it was fun talking with Nina about her life. Hmmm....the invention that has most changed my life. I think the internet is at the top of the list. I love being able to search any topic and learn lots of information on people, places, history, etc. I feel the world is at our fingertips!
ReplyDeleteHi Kathryn! Great video and blog. It reminded me how many inventions I take for granted... like soap in a bottle and the microwave! I think the invention that most changed my life is the airplane (invented way before I was born!). When I was in first grade like you, I moved across the world to Sri Lanka, then India, then Morocco, then France. Without the airplane, my family wouldn't have been able to live in so many places and living in all those places made me into the person I am.
ReplyDeleteI have a question for you: How did interviewing your great-grandma make you feel about her? Would you like to go back in time and live 90 years ago? Come tell me about it sometime in the hallway! ~ Ms. Jessica
Katie Beth.... Great job on the interview! I would say the invention that has changed my life most would be the "cruise control" switch on my car... I save gas and it helps me to control my speed so that I don't get caught speeding.
